Marie Lock     
 
I was born in Narrogin WA to Polish Ukraine war refugee parents. My father a shoe maker had great artistic and craft skills which were inherited by his children.
I was knitting teddy bears at 12 years and by 15 designing and creating some weird and wonderful outfits which I wore with pride. Fashion was a gift and as an adult I bought into a boutique which I ran with the help of family for 8 years. I married and worked on a farm where I designed and made clothes for my family and added dolls and teddies to the craft.
Narrogin has a wonderful art centre where I developed my skills as a professional potter and artist with a studio and large kiln on the farm. With children I have created many large murals throughout WA with 30 years in the Education Department and now tutor art to adults and children at my Perth studio. My enjoyment is in bringing their hidden art skills to the fore and enabling even the most timid artist to express themselves with vibrant creativity.
I have won many awards in art, pottery and sculpture and was pleased to be asked to judge art at the Koorda Agricultural Show. Material wealth means little to me….grounding in my beautiful garden with all living things and connecting with the universe is where my creations are formed. ( LOUD music and a red wine are also on the cards…)
