These paintings named ‘Sai’ the name given to our man-made fish traps from our island Erub that my people and ancestors rely on as a source of survival. Sai provides food and life for our people. Sai, known as fish traps, were sophistically placed by my ancestors around the island that form pools and fill up with water and sea life on high tide, this allows hunters to gather food on low tide with an array of fresh seafood. There is always activity on Sai from everyone from across all the villages throughout Erub, the excitement of what the tide brings in changes every day.  We would not be here if the ocean didn’t provide for us. The ocean keeps me connected to my people, my island & my ancestors no matter where I am. I may be a long way from my island, but it is with me in my blood and in my spirit, always.
