Jeanette Ryder
Jeanette Ryder has lived and worked in Carnarvon for over 40 years. These days she provides home care to her elderly mother and Nhanda elder, Edna, who was born on country at Murchison House Station, Kalbarri.
Jeanette turned her hands to pottery in the 90s, having been somewhat obsessed with all thing's pottery - and after a break of some years, has returned to the craft.
She draws inspiration from coastal and river escarpments, sandplains, 'and the bush' on Nhanda country.
She respects the people on whose country she now lives and acknowledges the alluring Gascoyne.
All pottery pieces are created from stoneware clay, obtaining their strength through two kiln firings. Jeanette connects this process to symbolising resilience in life, culminating in the refinement of our inner self.
The glaze colours embracing the vessels enhance their formed shape, reflecting the land, river and sea scapes from which they were inspired, contributing to their outward beauty.
Each item of pottery is individually made and unique.
